WADOO!!NEWS: Pope Francis to meet Obama at the White House
The White House on Thursday confirmed that Pope Francis would meet with President Barack Obama at the White House during his visit to U.S. on September 23.
Josh Earnest, White House Spokesman, said the meeting would allow the pontiff and the president to discuss ‘shared values and commitments’.
He said the visit would also provide a platform for caring for the poor, promoting economic opportunities, protecting the environment and religious minorities and aiding immigrants.
Earnest said during the visit, Francis would attend the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia and also address a joint session of Congress and the UN General Assembly in New York.
Obama and Francis met at the Vatican in March 2014 and the Vatican played a key role in negotiations that opened the path to talks about resuming diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba. (dpa/NAN)
